Pride Is More Than a Celebration — It’s a Commitment to Protect Lives

SUPPORT US TODAY

Every June, Pride Month offers an opportunity to celebrate the courage, resilience, and achievements of LGBTQ+ communities around the world. It is a time of visibility, solidarity, and hope.

Yet for many LGBTQ+ people in Tanzania, Pride is about far more than celebration. It is about survival.

Across the country, LGBTQ+ individuals continue to face discrimination, violence, family rejection, homelessness, arbitrary arrests, and significant barriers to accessing healthcare, justice, and protection. For many, simply living openly and authentically comes with serious risks.

This reality is why sustained support for LGBTQ+ human rights organizations and community-led initiatives remains critically important.

Standing With LGBTQ+ Communities in Tanzania

Through the Help Defend and Protect LGBTQ+ Rights in Tanzania project, local advocates and human rights defenders are working every day to provide life-saving support to individuals whose safety and rights are under threat.

The project delivers:

  • Legal aid for individuals facing discrimination, harassment, arrests, or other human rights violations.
  • Emergency shelter and safe housing for LGBTQ+ people experiencing homelessness or immediate danger.
  • Psychosocial support and trauma counseling for survivors of violence and abuse.
  • Human rights education and community empowerment programs.
  • Protection and relocation assistance for individuals facing severe threats to their safety.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters around the world, the project has already raised more than $79,000 toward its fundraising goal. These contributions have helped provide critical assistance to vulnerable community members during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

How Your Donation Can Make a Difference

This Pride Month, your support can have a direct and meaningful impact:

  • $20 can help provide trauma counseling for a survivor of violence.
  • $120 can support legal services for someone facing unjust arrest or detention.
  • $200 can help provide temporary shelter for a homeless LGBTQ+ youth.
  • $350 can help relocate an individual facing imminent danger to a safer environment.

Every contribution helps ensure that individuals facing crisis have access to the resources, protection, and support they need.

Why Long-Term Support Matters

Despite growing visibility of LGBTQ+ issues worldwide, LGBTQ+ organizations continue to receive only a small fraction of global charitable funding. Yet these organizations are often on the front lines of responding to emergencies, protecting human rights, and supporting marginalized communities.

Sustainable funding allows organizations to move beyond crisis response and invest in long-term solutions—strengthening community resilience, expanding access to justice, and advancing equality and human dignity.

For LGBTQ+ people in Tanzania, this support can mean the difference between isolation and community, vulnerability and protection, despair and hope.

Turning Pride Into Action

Pride began as a movement for justice. It was built on the belief that every person deserves to live free from discrimination, violence, and fear.

As we celebrate Pride Month, let us honor that legacy not only through words and visibility, but through meaningful action.

We invite you to support the Help Defend and Protect LGBTQ+ Rights in Tanzania project by making a donation today. Your contribution will help protect lives, defend human rights, and strengthen the fight for equality and dignity.

If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this appeal with your friends, family, colleagues, and networks. Every donation, every share, and every act of solidarity helps build a safer and more inclusive future.
