This isn’t just a nightmare — it’s the lived experience for countless LGBTQ+ individuals in Tanzania. Here, same-sex relations are criminalized under colonial-era laws, and queer people are often subjected to state-backed violence, forced outings, arrests, and public humiliation.
According to Human Rights Watch, Tanzanian authorities have used these laws to justify unlawful detentions and harassment of LGBTQ+ individuals. Families disown them. Employers fire them. Landlords evict them. Their lives become a constant battle for survival.

At LGBT Voice Tanzania, we are building a movement rooted in resilience. For over a decade, we’ve provided:
